Airport Security

I'm going to the Jamboree and if I bought a cassette or video tape, would they survive airport security X-Ray machines on the way back? And if mailed, how would they fare if the mail were irradiated? Any thoughts?

It's not the x-ray machine you should be worrying about, It's not even the tapes you should be worrying about! Worry about your Enron investments and the guy with the rags on his head sitting next to you.-----(just kidding,they should be OK).

X-Rays do not affect magnetic tape.

I had my bar and picks in my carryone luggage and they confiscated my bar until someone came along with some kind of authority who new what a steel guitar was.Jody.

Two things:
I would be the first to agree that a Chrome steel bar with a rounded end in the hands of a renigade steel player may cause major trauma to an unsuspecting victim, especially if the E's are not on pitch !

On a serious note, after reading ( USA Today Last week ) about the theft occuring at the airport security check stations and the lack of care and concern displayed from the security staff about the thefts, I would be more concerned with whether or not you would get your property back once it goes thru the conveyor while you are detained on the other side. It appears as though the "Crooks" have figured out how to walk away with Laptops ans stuff that have come thru the conveyor but the owner is still on the other side waiting it out.

I've had to stop wearing my boots because the steel-shanks make the "bells go off", and then after I have to remove them for inspection I have difficulty getting them back on! Of course with my beard and sunglasses I fit all kinds of profiles anyway

Before 9/11 I had some trouble getting through with my bar pouch. Actually several times. One time I did forget and leave a full magazine of .45 ammo in my briefcase after going to the range the previous day. Security didn't even stop me. Go figure

I constantly travel for my company. After 911 with the hightened security it has totally changed the way I travel. Before I use to check my tech case (which has tools, IC chips, and schematics) and overnight bag. I would always carry on one of the larger scopes with me. Now, I take one of the hand held scopes with me but it's packed in my tech case. Every thing gets checked and before I check my overnight bag I throw everything thats in my pockets into that so that the only thing I go through security with is myself, the airline ticket, my wallet, and a novel to read. I even changed my wallet to a folding bill fold of all lether with no zippers or anything metal. I have a trip to Canada next week and am NOT lookinf forward to it because of the hassels that you still go through in traviling. What use to be a 5 hour trip just in travel time(time from leaving the shop to arriving at the customer's facilities) is now up to 9 or 10 hours and it's a pain in the you know where.
