Ray Price in Laughlin Nevada

Post by Bill Bailey »

We just got back from the Ray Price show in Laughlin, Nevada, aproximatly 40 miles from our home in Kingman Arizona. We had reserved seats for the 8:00 PM show but found out there was a 5:00 PM show, so we went to the early show. We got seated in the 2nd row left side facing the stage with a real good view of the Emmons steel guitar. After a couple of minutes in our chairs, who sits down at the steel but Danny Mohamid? The band kicked off with Ray's son Clif Price singing Merle Haggard's Big City. They played about 4 tunes and then introduced Ray. He came on singing the good old shuffles and the crowd loved him. He sings better than ever, but said he was suffering from some damn thing, probably allergies since he kept using kleenex to wipe his nose. Ray recieved at least 4 standing ovations from the mostly older but appreciative croud. After the show my wife Margie and I went to the stage and met Danny and the piano player. Danny visited with us a few minutes and was a very open and friendly and easy to talk with. I asked how old his Emmons push pull was, and he said he bought it from Bobbe Seymour and said it was a 68 or 69. It was a black beauty and sounded clean and clear and the sustain was great. I thought Danny did a great job, had all those intros and fills down to a tee, and especially stretched out in The Night Life. Ray introduced all the band members who soloed first and then introduced the rest of the players one at a time. We bought Ray's new CD called Prisoner of Love and listened to it all the way home. It is a classical to jazzy, Ray Price sound, but little if any steel. All in all it was a termendous show with a knock out band. Go see it if you have a chance.
Take care.
