What's wrong with it, you ask? Well, let me ask you:
How much gear do you take on a gig?
I drag (is that the right word?) a pedal steel guitar (Fender 1000), lead guitar (Fender Jaguar), electric bass guitar (Epiphone semi-acoustic),
guitar(s) amplifier (Peavey Vegas 400), bass amplifier (Ampeg BN-15), a 4-space rack unit (with power conditioner, tuner, effects and preamplifier) and two containers of accessories (a box and a bag).
Is that enough or what?
I do this because I enjoy playing three instruments and this is part of the price I have to pay to experience this enjoyment.
I've come to the conclusion that in my next life, I'm gonna play the acoustic piccolo!
How about you. How much gear do you take on your gigs?
GFI S10, Peavey 400 (soon to be Evans) Pack a seat and effects case (3 space-conditioner, tuner and SE-50), I kiss it (keep it simple stupid) when ever I can, albeit, sometimes I do take along my Strat or Ibanez electric OR an acoustic 12 string. Depends on the gig, but I TRY to Kiss it.

It feels like I take "half the house" with me even if it's just the steel, seat and amp. On bigger venues I use my rack system with two speakers and occasion I also pack my Tele. But most of the time it's just "basic" steel, seat and amp.
I take my Emmons D-10, Nashville 400, Tele, Twin, plus Mics, Stands, Cords, Pac-A-Seat, and effects rack for the Tele. I could take one amp, but i like separate tones for the two guitars. Also if I have to mike them it's easier to EQ two channels than one.
Emmons D10 P/P or LeGrande, Webb or Evans amp and either Profex II and tuner in a rack or RV 3, sometimes the legs, pedal bar and pedal rods for the guitar, sometimes not. Hilton pedal an absolute must!!

Folks, don't let Jerry fool you. The legs, pedal bar and rods are only options with him. As long as there's a couple extra chairs he does fine. Sets that sucker down on them with the knee throws all folded up under and retunes it and plays both necks straight bar all night. Damn !! The things some guys won't do for a buck !!! -
I try to pack my Pack-A-Seat with what I need most (extra strings, picks, cables, bar, tuning wrench, tuner, etc.) and I carry a bag that includes an extra volume pedal, extra picks/bar/cables, other effects used less often, extension cords, tools, and backup power supplies.
It's important to have what you need -- I've had volume pedal failure; I've left my picks and bar on my practice guitar; I've had cables go bad. We learn (hopefully) from our mistakes -- and I've made my share.

I wheel my steel in (Wheel Eze Case).
Then go back to the car and get a Fender Twin Reverb (that is on wheels), set my Pac-A-Seat on top, and roll them in as one unit.
Although I currently own some rack mount gear, I have eliminated it from my stage set-up (one less piece of gear to haul and set up) by using an RV-3 stomp box (which I have sitting in easy hand reach just to my right on a little rack that I have attached to the side of my steel-seat).
I have a Costco dolly (hand cart) that I use if I have to wheel my stuff farther than parking lot to stage.
Bill's looks about right. I also have my Gatton Tele and a few stomp boxes, too.
(I don't actually bring anything. It's already at the gig in the bus...)

Aaaaahh, let's see here. Well, I front our band and own the p.a. and well that's not fair. Let's just put it this way, I pull a 16' trailer with a crew cab dually pick up and the trailer weighs about 8-9000 lbs. Yep, that too much alright. Some of the guys on here have been to our gigs and know the equipment we carry.
I do both steel and lead guitar gigs. On a steel only gig I take my S-12 Psuedo Emmons, A Nashville 400 amp, a ShoBud pack seat, and a Zoom 1010 small effects unit. On lead guitar I take an Ibanez Artist w/Bigsby Palm Pedal, a Schecter Strat w/HipShot B-Bender, a Yamaha Acoustic/Electric Classical, a Gibson F-Style Mandolin. Plus a SKB Pedal Board with everything on it which goes into a Fender DeVille amp w/ 2 12" speakers.
I ALWAYS get a killer tone and ALWAYS take my whole rig from small venues to very large clubs and outdoor events. It consists of a Sho-Bud Pro 2, old Peavey Nashville 400, 1969 Standell 1-15 amp, both in cases. EPC-Edgar Pro Case ATA seat, and my cheap peavey rack that consists of an ETA power source, Korg rack tuner, and old noisy DOD-G7 processor. And they both fit in a ATA utility case. Also I use a rack mounted EMMONS volume pedal. For the sit down gig it's a D-10 Emmons either the Legrande II or the 71 P/P,Hilton Volume Pedal, Pro-Fex II, pac-a-seat, and 2 mid 70's Session 400's. For a one niter I use a S-10 Sho-Bud on a single frame, Goodrich H10K volume pedal, pac-a-seat, Webb or Evans and a DD-5 delay. All chords, strings, tuner comes with the pac-a-seat. This is as light as I like to get. I prefer two amps or at least an extension cabinet with an amp. A couple of weeks ago I had almost everything I had in use at one time. that was 5 amps, 2 pedal guitars, a Stringmaster, Profex II, 2 pac-a-seats, 2 stomp boxes for delay and reverb. This was split between two bar gigs and a studio gig.
Hey, Al hope your getting paid double! Myself? 3 amps. Webb, Princeton reverb, Peavey Ecoustic 112. Guitars. Sho-Bud original Pro-II, and a Gretsch 6118 Anni. A fiddle, and a mandolin. Whewwwwwwwww!!!!! Oh yeah, I sing the high harmonies also, and arrange all the vocals. But, I'm workin!
If I add guitar: Strat and Fender Hot Rod Deluxe amp.
If the gig is my band, I include the PA system--more boxes. Would you believe I can (almost) get all this gear in my Pontiac Bonneville? That's right, including the PA! I played a gig recently using my PA with Yamaha 1x15" cabs and got it all in the car except the monitors. I'm currently shopping for some 1x12" mains that should all fit, including the two monitors. Of course, at that point, I'll need a couple of speaker stands and if you add a light rack, uh, it won't fit. Then I call for help. Or get a roof rack.
The steel rig has no component that weighs more than about 50 lbs. I play a Zum S-12U guitar in a custom soft case, the rack box is around 25-30 lbs, the speaker is about the same, the Fender amp is 49 lbs.
My other band has a huge PA that requires a bobtail truck and two hours to set up. No fun! I'm working on weaning them off this system and onto mine. I'm about half way there!
Face it, for PSG players, this is a gear intensive habit. But ponder this: I read recently that John McLaughlin, the jazz-rock guitarist uses NO AMP in his setup. He uses some type of Yamaha signal processor and plugs it direct into the PA. He can hear all he needs thru the monitors! That's my goal.
I never intend to haul anything as brutal as a Twin Reverb amp or a D-10 guitar. That's just my preference. The rack rig was a step in the right direction for me. I hope to play small venues soon for which the Fender HR Deluxe amp will suffice. Hey the old western swing guys sounded pretty good using simple rigs. I'm always jealous when seeing a bluegrass band set up and tear down.

I've whittled it down to my Zum U12, b-bender tele (that I built), seat, and a CyberTwin. Pays the same as hauling lots more and sounds just about as good.
