Sho-Bud in 1964 ???

Post by Jim Smith »

Just saw this poster ad on eBay: http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1512421113 showing pictures of many of the great players. However one of the pictures shows and lists Shot Jackson and Bud Charleton together. Was Buddy Charleton the "Bud" of Sho-Bud for a time when Buddy Emmons left to build the Emmons guitar? Image It also looks like Buddy Charlton's D-10 has two pickups per neck.

Charleton was indeed the "Bud" of Sho~Bud for a short time in the early `60s after Buddy Emmons left. He would help in the store sometimes and when going back on tour, sometimes take guitars with him on the bus to deliver to customers. I just try to imagine how that must have been like - my favorite steel delivered to me by my favorite player.

Evidently, these ads may be reprints. I've seen a number of them for sale, and as prizes at steel shows recently. They are a nice piece, and yes...Buddy's guitar features the old "split pickups".

It's the whole feeling of having an original.
I remember a Southerby's auction that featured a bank slip with a signature by Jimmy Hendrix, it was a big item.

I must admit I've copied some nice stuff from e-bay, hey I might check it out tonight.
