I just got back from Nasville after cutting a new album featuring myself on dobro and the great Jim Murphy on steel. We had a great time. Jim was just unbelieveable. Also on the session was the forums own Earl Erb. These guys worked great together.Hope to have it out soon. I want to thank everyone involved. Also Gene Breeden for his great studio and crew. Once again thanks Murph, it was a real honor to work with you. Terry. And Earl, I want to thank you for all your hard work on this project. For you guys out there that have not met Earl or heard him play you are missing out on knowing a great person and an outstanding guitar player. Earl, I played a rough mix for George and he was knocked out by it. Thanks again Earl. Terry
Jason, this CD is being produced by Terry Miller and it is a tribute album to Shot Jackson.I was honored to be able to participate in this project.

Iwent to Big Jim Murphy last night at Buffalo. Great is an understatement. Murph was so clean and fast. He really adds so much to this group. His sax playing takes backseat to no one. It was great to talk with Murph. We discussed our CD. When this comes out, I think people are going to be surprised at just how good the steel sounds. Jim used a Sho Bud steel and a Sho Bud amp, no effects. Tone that is pure gold. Thanks Murph for letting people hear what a steel was meant to sound like. Terry

I've got to hear ATW on the Grand Old Opry and Austin City Limits since Big Jim's been with the group. He didn't play like what I was acustomed to hearing with the group. It was totally different and in my mind much more exciting! He didn't seem to play the old western swing style like some of the other steel players they've had. He had a his own approach to the music and in my opinion he added a whole lotta drive to it. When he'd take his rides it'd really come alive. I don't think I've really enjoyed the steel work in that band as much since his brother Wally left the group. I love the old style swing playing but after all it is 2002 and BJM brings Western Swing into this century for sure.

The last time I saw Big Jim with the Wheel, he was alternating between an old Fender D-8 pedal steel (without the pedals attached) and his Zum with some kind of leaf
inlaid on the front apron, as well as tenor sax. Needless to say, he rocked on all of them.

The first time I heard Jim play was in 1965 when he was with the Merl Lindsay Band and some of the band members were jamming one night at a small club between road trips. Merl wouldn't let Jim play pedals on the job so he was knocking everyone out jamming on both necks.....I remember calling my wife from a telephone booth in the club and holding the phone outside the door so she could hear him play. www.genejones.com

That leaf that you are taking about on the front of BIG JIM'S guitar, is what he and myself call an (HERBAL PLANT LEAF).This is a natural occuring medication that is freguently used by many steel guitarist from time to time.If you see BIG JIM tell him that DOC said to be sure and TAKE YOUR MEDICATION!

This natural occuring medication is freguently used by steel guitarist from time to time and also other musicians in the BAND if they are so lucky. If you see BIG JIM tell him that DOC said to contiune his MEDICATION as directed!
