Bobbe Seymour, Southern Gentleman

Post by Tony Orth »

My wife, Carol, and I spent the past weekend in Nashville. We had a wonderful weekend, and part of what made it so was visiting with Bobbe Seymour. I could have said "meeting" Bobbe, but you don't "meet" with Bobbe, you "visit" with him.

After spending about a half-hour on that cold, wet, Saturday morning trying to find his shop, we finally did luck upon it. (Which is what you do when you're male and you've lost the address).

While it was cold outside, it was nice and warm inside. And, most of that warmth came from ol' Bobbe. As we introduced ourselves, he grinned from ear to ear (and that's some grin, I can tell you) and extended his hand. It was like he had been expecting us all along, and was so happy that we had finally arrived.

After our "tour", and at our request, he did us the honor of a couple of numbers on the old Emmons. I was dazed as he effortlessly played a Chet Atkins style dittie on C6. It was such a pleasure that it took my breath away.

We had a great hour or so trading old stories and one liners. Had I not promised Carol to accompany her on her shopping trip, I would have stayed there all day.

Oh, and by the way, Bobbe is the master of gentlemanly charm. Just ask Carol. I noticed that she was swooning just a bit as we got in the car to leave.

Bobbe,
Thanks for your hospitality. We had a great time visiting with you. And, If I decide to buy a Nashville 1000, you'll be getting my business. Hope to see you in June when I'm back through there.
If you need anything when you're in Evansville, we would like to return your hospitality. You are welcome at our place anytime and we have plenty of room.
Just give us a shout!

ps Please do say "hello" to Brandi for us.

Thank you so very much Tony, Carol and "The great Slickster".
It's hard to work with Maurice Anderson and not have at least a little of that personality rub off on you.
I honestly try, but as you all know, I will post some pretty strong statments on the forum at times, never to hurt or cause pain, even though I feel I have at times,(sorry 'bout that). The bigger the name , the more I love to pick on them! I am trying to follow bOb's advice and keep things serious and informative. I'm having a lot of trouble with the serious part though.
This is a wonderful forum and we should NOT abuse it. If we abuse it , we could lose it.
In another thread, Rick G.M. sung my praises and now I must say some things on his behalf.
Rick came in the store a week ago with a guitar that I saw one time in 1958 and NEVER forgot. It was the Bobby Garrett Stringmaster,26' scale, double neck that Bobby G. had before any of his Sho-Buds. It is in great shape. I got up to $10.000 before he flatly stated, What part of NO don't you understand?
Rick G.M. is as fine a person as we could ever have on this forum.(Bobby Garrett's son also!)
There are a lot of nice folks on this forum. Even those that I argue with have (mostly) turned out to be incredable friends. Harry Hess? Bob Haines? Craig Davidson? Slick Wayne? Jim Phelps? These are all great friends that I met debating (Arguing?)with on the forum. Several others also. I treasure all these friendships, along with so many others that I have had the honor of meeting on this forum. Hey guys, this is a wonderful vechicle used intelligently, fun, informative, great place to meet new friends, vent frustrations, etc.

I want to thank all of you for being so great, you too John,Ann,Teresa, Paul,Steve F. etc. Thank God we are free to be ourselves. ( I still owe Steve F. an apoligy)

Bobbe, again what a fine compliment you've been kind enough to pay me. Meeting you was one of the highlights of my trip to be sure and Im still drooling over that gorgeous Shobud you showed me. Would dearly love to own it but my dear bride of 25 years will shoot me dead if I buy another guitar before the weather breaks where I can make her some shopping money. Image I know all you married fellows understand that! Bobbe if I live to be 100 I'll always remember the kindness you've shown this Texas boy. Thank you from the bottom of my heart and God Bless.

Boy I would like to see that Stringmaster with the 26'(Ft.) scale. Imagine playing that thing. Just teasing Bobbe, I think you meant 26"(inch).

Durn.....

You guys keep swellin' Bobbe's head like this and he's gonna have to move into an even bigger location. I,too had a problem finding his new location in Hendersonville, Then I finally found it. Looks good from the outside. Too bad it was 4:00 clock in the morning tho. The guy ain't never there when you need him to give you the nickel tour..

Seriously tho.... Bobbe is a super dealer and a heck of a nice gentleman. I'm proud to say I know him.
[This message was edited by Bill Crook on 23 January 2002 at 05:38 AM.]

I don't think Bobbe wants just anyone to find his shop. He considers intelligent, creative, crafty, doggedly determined, or committed individuals as his equals.

It's a test, guys.

I, however, was just lucky to find it.
(Please don't tell Bobbe.)

When the highway is very cold, it contracts, so in practice, the distance is not quite that far,in winter anyway. Summer is another story. As, I'm sure you can understand.
