Jim Wilson, Huntingdon PA

Post by Dave Mudgett »

I am very sorry to report that steel player and forum member Jim Wilson passed away yesterday, February 3, 2026. Here's the obit, it just hit 2 hours ago - https://www.legacy.com/us/obituaries/na ... d=60711203

Jim and Shelby, of the Make Mine Country band, have been members of the Wheeling Jamboree for many years. They have been one of the few traditional country bands in this area. I hope to get down to the service this Friday, which as the obit states, is this Friday, February 6, 2026 from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the John B. Brown Funeral Home, 417 Washington Street, Huntingdon, PA.

RIP Jim. Here's a photo of (right-to-left) Jim, me, and forum member Colm Chomicky at one of Jim's gigs in 2015:

Dave, so very sorry to hear. As you know Jim and myself are both Pennsylvania boys and at one time practically neighbors when he lived out by Whipple Dam in the heart of the Appalachians. We did not know each other until I recall discovered each other on this Forum. I treasured meeting up with Jim and Make Mine Country Band every time I could make it back "home" to PA. It was great hearing Jim sing, play steel and guitar with Make Mine Country. We were both July babies, so when we would meet up in July, Shelby with the band would always announce us "birthday boys" on stage. Jim and the band were always very generous in inviting me to sit in on steel for a few numbers which I always appreciated and had a wonderful time. I am really gonna miss that guy but the memories will endure. Make Mine Country Band has always had a busy schedule for as long as I can remember playing almost every week if not more. Here's to you Jim you will be sorely missed!
