I remember in 1998, I was getting brochures from the Carter Steel Guitar Company before I started playing steel, and I found out that Junior had played a Carter steel with LeAnn Rimes in her road band after she started her career and was signed to Curb Records. Junior was an awesome steel guitarist and a friend to many steel guitarists, including myself and many others

Junior Knight was the very first person to make contact with me when I joined the Steel Guitar Forum. When we met in person at the Dallas Show he played guitar on my set on Thursday nights. Always remembered my first name. He was a great person as well as a wonderful musician. He and I sat next to each other at Ronnie Symack's steel guitar get togethers near Waco on a Sunday afternoon at least once after the Dallas Shows. He always complimented my steel playing. I know he will be happy where he now resides. Junior Knight--the best.

I'm really saddened to hear of Junior's passing. I knew he was in tough shape as we had corresponded several times over the past year. It still hurts.

I met Junior in the mid 70s when he was playing Dewey Groom's, Long Horn Ballroom and we did a show there. I was immediately knocked out with his playing. A few minutes later I actually met him as we swapped out the stage and he and I have been friends ever since. What a great player and person !!

Junior is at peace now in Heaven with Jesus. No more suffering or pain, just comfort, love and glory with Our Lord. My prayers and deepest sympathies go up for all his family and friends.

Here’s a short story about Junior. We were working sound for one of the Choo Choo shows in Chattanooga, Tn. As usual, we would play CDs before the show and during breaks. As I was coming into the hall before the Saturday morning show started, there was a great CD playing. I got up to the sound table, and Junior was there talking with another member of the sound crew. When I had the opportunity, I asked whose CD was playing, it was great and I needed to get a copy. Junior spoke up and said it was his. I told him I would be by his table in a while to get a copy. A couple of minutes after Junior left the table, he came back and handed me a copy. I asked him how much, he replied “enjoy it, on me”. To this day I remember Junior not only as a great musician, but a truly wonderful man.

Johnny- Thanks for posting this message. I am sorry to hear the news of Junior Knight’s passing. Sometime in 1981 or so my steel teacher, Gary Carpenter introduced me to Junior at the Longhorn Ballroom in Dallas. That began a long friendship with one of my steel guitar heroes. My condolences to the family. He was a fantastic musician and gentleman. RIP

Very sorry to learn of Junior's passing. He was an excellent steeler and one of my favourite players. I had met him briefly at the TSGA some years ago. A very nice man indeed. My sincere condolences to Junior's wife, loved ones and friends.. May he rest in peace.

I remember me and had our illnesses at the same time although mine was serious as his , we still were each other's support system and I would call and talk to him and I remember talking to him one day. And he said," Tommy if the Lord called me tomorrow there wouldn't any doubt that God would be ready for I would go and not have any problems
Because God blessed him a good family and all the talented folks he had the opportunity to work with.
I love you Junior, I pray I get to see you some day. Gonna Miss you brother
