I don’t know how anyone can say with authority who’s the “better” player when you’re talking about guys at that level. Derek Trucks and Dylan Adams both blow my mind. I remember seeing Derek Trucks in Orlando at this little club — I think it was called “Crawdaddy’s,” though I can’t quite recall the name. I used to play there myself from time to time. Derek was just 12 years old, up on stage with musicians in their 30s and 40s, playing an SG through an old Blackface Super. It was incredible — this young kid in a Braves cap and shorts channeling Duane Allman right before our eyes.
Years later, I caught the Tedeschi Trucks Band. It was awesome, no doubt, but I’ll admit I went mainly to see Derek. Instead, I was hit with this massive wall of sound — horns, organs, synths, keyboards, and what felt like 90 other players. It was powerful, and honestly pretty amazing, but if I had my way it would’ve been more downsized. Still, like you said, definitely awesome

Re: Dylan Adams
I've seen the Derek Trucks band back in the 2000's, his main vehicle before Tedeschi Trucks, and thoroughly enjoyed them. There was more experimentation and communication between the members of the group. They had been together for more than 10 years at the time. DTB played a wider variety of music, Indian, Jazz and other esoteric stuff than the TTB.
I still listen to their shows on Archive.org. I used to have a 3 hr commute to work and would download a concert and put it on a CD for the trips. I would listen to concerts that were on consecutive nights where Derek would play a totally different lead each night. Their interplay was exceptional. TTB does not have the same chemistry. I'm not a big fan of large bands anyway...
