Duane Becker on Paradise

Post by Don Walters »

Both of us being great fans of Wylie & the Wild West, my wife just bought their latest CD, Paradise. Duane Becker is listed as the steel/dobro player and is all over this album. He's obviously an outstanding player and does a great job on this album. The music is more "western" or "cowboy" than "country", but it's extremely well done.

In addition to the excellent steel playing, there's lots of fiddle and country guitar playing as well. The guitar player is Ray Doyle who plays a lot of different styles on the album but sounds like a player who understands and plays country guitar (as opposed to a rock guitar player trying to play country)

And of course, Wylie may be the best yodeller ever!

Wylie also seems to appreciate the stars of the past. He's got Hank Snow's The Gal Who Invented Kissin' on the album.

Thanks for the kind words. I've been with Wyle since 1996 and this year, I have been taking some time off the road. I will be at the BC Steel Jam on May 5. Are you going? Duane Becker

I'd love to go, but it's pretty far from Regina for a one-day affair. But if I fly to Calgary...

With you and Al Brisco there, along with other folks I'd love to meet, it might be worth the effort. I'll let you know ..
