Gathering in Globe

Post by Billy Easton »

Last Sunday, I was privileged to take part in a steel guitar "get together" in Globe, Az. Hosted by steeler Troy Porter of Globe, a bunch of great players were there. Frank Carter of California was there with his computer and "Band in the Box" for rhythm tracks, as well as his EMCI. What a terrific player he is. Also in attendance were John Lazarus, Bob Allen, Ray Jenkins, Ron Couch, Danny Sneed (next time bring your axe!!), Fred Justice and others. We all had a great time and we promised to do this again. Who knows, this may be the beginning of a Southwest Steel Guitar Convention!! Thanks to all these guys for allowing me to pick with them!!

How right you are Billy,a great time.Thank you Troy for your initative to do this.We don't want to forget the lovely ladies that were present to make sure we were fed, coffeed and poped.A real abundance of beauty.
I must tell my story of how patient the brothers of the steel guitar can be.I had never done this type of gathering before.I was a nervous wreck,so many great players sitting all around taking turns with the songs. The second song started,Frank was first,John second,Troy next,Bob next, then me.I know this has never happened to any of the rest of you,my brain vapor locked and my gun jammed half way through, thank God for Billy Easton,he picked it up after I goofed, not only once but this happened 4 times.Frank kept looking at me whith that "we know you can do it" look. These guys never gave up on me and because of thier love I got it Thanks for the great support you gave me.The real lesson these guys taught me was,you don't fail when you fall down, you fail when you don't try to get up.I had all the help you could ask for getting back up.Thanks Fred Justice,Troy Porter.Bob Allen John Lazarus and especially Frank Carter and Billy Easton.I had a great day.

Fran and I had a wonderful time at this
gathering. We want to thank Troy and Peggy
for all their hard work in putting it
together. They furnished the room, food,
computer,sound equipment and plenty of
hospitality. We do hope this will become an
annual event; it's a great way for steel
players to get to know one another and pic
together. I was very impressed with Billy
Easton's C6 playing. See you in Dallas,
Billy and hope to see everyone else next year.

Billy, I guess when you live on a high mountain, the invites never make it to that altitude. We here in Flagstaff, just get to read about the great get togethers(I say we, that means my wife and I). Thanks anyway, Gary.

Sounds like a great time.
I hope that it happens again, and Bob doesn't
keep it a secret.
Maybe a thread on the Forum?
